Why are good programs cancelled?

Our programs can only run as long as we have a minimum number of participants registered in them. Therefore, it is very important to register for programs at least a week before the programs start. Don't be disappointed, sign up early! In the event of severe weather, please contact the Centre at 905-615-3207. Please listen to the recorded message to ensure that your program will take place.

Board of Directors Update:

The Board of Directors are pleased to announce that Square One Older Adult Centre has been approved for funding support from Service Canada, under the Canada Summer Jobs Initiative, to have a summer student work with us this summer. We are pleased to announce that Dhruv Nayyar will be returning to work with us after a successful summer as our student last year. Dhruv's title is Community Development Assistant.

Article on Dhruv Nayyar published in Mississauga News, page 9, Friday, July 10, 2009
Dhruv Nayyar

On July 10, 2009, Dhruv Nayyar was mentioned in an article by Julie Slack on page 9 in the Mississauga News: "Dhruv Nayyar, who . . . attended Turner Fenton Secondary School in Brampton, achieved a 100 per cent average in his top six Grade 12 courses, making him the Peel District School Board's top scholar in 2008/09 . . . In September, Nayyar will begin studying life sciences at Queen's University on a $36,000 Chancellor's Scholarship. He hopes to have a career in medicine."

The Board of Directors are also very excited to announce that Older Adult Centre has been approved for funding from the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), "Aging At Home Strategy", to host a Telephone Reassurance Program for Seniors. This is in partnership with Peel Senior Link. The Aging at Home Strategy, endorsed by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, expands traditional health services that help seniors stay healthy and live independently in their homes. We are delighted to have this opportunity to support seniors in our community by providing reassurance phone calls We will be developing and implementing the program over the next couple of months. Please contact us if you are interested in receiving this service or volunteering with this program.
