Info from Mississauga Central Lions Club: The Lions Clubs of Mississauga are raising funds for Earthquake Disaster Relief in Haiti. Funds collected will go to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) to be directed immediately to areas of greatest need as focused by the Six Lions Clubs in Haiti.
Lions and other partners will be manning two booths set up for gathering public donations in the Square One Shopping Centre (100 City Centre Drive, Mississauga, ON L5B 2C9) during mall hours Thursday January 21 through Sunday January 24 2010. One booth is located at the lower level main entrance adjacent to TD Canada Trust and the other booth will be on the upper level “Cityside” (adjacent to Godiva Chocolates / the Apple common area).
Lions Respond to Haiti Earthquake - Photos and event description from Snap North Mississauga.
If you do not make it to this fundraising event in person you can still contribute safely and securely online to the Haiti Earthquake Fund through Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) by visiting: LCIF Disaster Donation.
LCIF is not only committed to meeting the immediate needs of the people of Haiti, but will be working through the Lions in the region to provide relief for years to come. After other relief organizations have moved out of the area, Lions will still be on the ground, overseeing long-term reconstruction projects. Similar to previous disasters, Lions will be discussing the possibility of rebuilding homes and hospitals, redeveloping the eye care delivery system, providing human resource support, and assisting the disabled, including those disabled as a result of this disaster.
You can donate in confidence to LCIF, as 100 percent of every donation will go directly to disaster relief, as administrative costs are paid by interest earned on investments. (Note: Lions Club Members are volunteers, who pay annual membership fees, and do not get paid a salary for their work unlike some other charitable organizations).
LCIF just recently received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the highest rating possible from the independent charity evaluator. In 2007, LCIF was named the #1 non-governmental organization with which to partner, a title the Foundation still holds today.
This event is a collaborative effort between the Mississauga Central Lions Club and other Lions Clubs in Mississauga (Mississauga Churchill Meadow, Mississauga Cooksville, Mississauga Credit Valley, Mississauga Erin Mills, and Mississauga-Meadowvale Lions Club), Square One Older Adult Centre, St. John Ambulance, Mississauga Fire Department, Peel Regional Police, Rogers TV, Square One Security and Square One Management.
