Sheridan Homelands Ratepayers' Association (SHORA) is hosting its 3rd Annual Pumpkin Parade in Thornlodge Park's Peace Garden (behind St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School). Rain or Shine!

This will be a fun night to remember! Families, friends and neighbours are all invited to come out and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while admiring the incredible display of Jack-o'-lanterns in Thornlodge Park.

Bring your Jack-o'-lanterns! Please drop off your Jack-o'-lanterns or carved pumpkins at the Peace Garden, located behind St. Francis of Assisi school, on November 1st, from noon to 7:00 pm. Tea lights will be supplied by SHORA.

Please be aware that there are multiple entrances to the park (pathways off of Homelands Dr., Thornlodge Dr. and Winthrop Cres.). SHORA will have wheelbarrows available at the park entrance off of Thornlodge Drive to help with set up.

Please place your Jack-o'lanterns along with the others to create a fabulous display! The more Jack-o'-lanterns that arrive, the better the event!

Following the event, all pumpkins will be sent through the Region of Peel for composting.

Sit and Dance
with Sunny

Seniors Exercise in Chairs Google image from http://www.inspirationalfurniture.com/singleimages/senior-citizen-exercises-vpeced4w0rrehjlp.jpg

Thursdays, November 3, 10, 17, 24, 2016 - 2:15 - 3:15 pm

This FUN class encourages you to express yourself with dance moves, tamborines and scarves while you are safely sitting in a chair.

Sit and Dance is a combination of breathing, stretching, exercising and dancing to music while seated in a chair. Each song is music to a dance which may be a German, Italian, Filipino, Hawaiian or New Zealand folk dance, or the Waltz, Twist and Polka. You do only what you can and the dance need not be strenuous.

The class improves body co-ordination and a sense of rhythm, which is very important for seniors who need to move and synchronize their mind and body. It is also a great aerobic exercise, improving circulation, breathing and flexibility. This class is not just for people with physical issues, but is good for everybody!

This is a drop-in program and costs $3.25 per visit.

MR. LUBE

FREE Oil Changes for Veterans
in GTA

Poppy Google image from http://www.careeredge.ca/ceoblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/poppy.jpg

Thursday, November 10, 2016 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm

There is no purchase required for this offer. Those redeeming must present a valid government issued Canadian Forces / veterans ID (with photo) or have a veteran's licence plate on the vehicle being served. This offer is valid for up to 6L of oil. Limit one offer per veteran or current military personnel. Please see in-store for more details.

Background info from Fresh Radio 95.3: On November 10 2016, over 100 select Mr. Lube locations across Canada will be showing appreciation to Canadian Forces veterans. In doing so, Mr. Lube is inviting veterans to visit any of the participating locations to receive a free warranty-approved oil change.

The program was first implemented in Kelowna in 2014 by local Mr. Lube Franchise Owner, Darren Pierce. It was so well received by the community that Mr. Lube decided to extend the program across BC in 2015. After great success, Mr. Lube has now extended the offer nationwide, with over 100 stores participating in this November.

"The women and men who choose to serve Canada deserve our respect. They have earned it through years of service to the ideals and values that make up Canadian society," explains David Ticknor, Mr. Lube Franchise Owner in Vancouver. "It's the least we can do to show our appreciation and thank some of the most honourable and deserving individuals in the province," he says.

Info from Christkindl Market, Canada's Original - Kitchener, Ontario:
Experience the award winning Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario! Kitchener City Hall has been home to Canada's original Christkindl Market since 1996. Every Christmas, since medieval times, towns and cities across Germany come alive with the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas.

This year, the festival has been expanded to include more huts along King Street where you can enjoy Gluhwein, sweet and savoury food to eat now or take home. Shop outside and inside from over 90 vendors while you listen to choirs and bands, and watch dance groups. Take in the train room, blacksmiths demonstrations, live nativity and take a photo with one of the folkloric characters.

Meet Christkindl - The Christkind, Kristkind or "Christ Child" is the traditional Christmas giftbringer in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Christkindl is a diminuitive version of the Christkind. Our Christkindl (pronounced krisst-kindl), is depicted with long curly blond hair and a golden crown. She is accompanied by her 2 angels.

Meet Knecht Ruprecht - Knecht Ruprecht (or farmhand Ruprecht), has his origin in Germany and is a companion of Saint Nicholas (or Father Christmas). He seems to know if you've been bad or good. Knecht Ruprecht carries with him a bundle of switches and a sack filled with candies (for those who have been good).
