First Green Wave:
Environmental Activism in Ontario

Wednesday, April 22, 2015 - 7:00 - 9:00 pm

The First Green Wave: Pollution Probe and the Origins of Environmental Activism in Ontario (The Nature, History, Society) examines the story of Pollution Probe, an organization founded in 1969 by students and faculty at the University of Toronto.

Living up to its motto ("Do it!"), in its first year of operation, Pollution Probe confronted Toronto's City Hall over its use of pesticides, Ontario Hydro over air pollution, and the detergent industry over pollution of the Great Lakes. The success of these actions inspired the founding of other environmental organizations across Canada and led to the development of environmental initiatives now taken for granted.

Admission is FREE. Registration is required.

Commute Commune Photo Ceremony
Honouring Artist Eric Oberhauser

Connecting Mississauga MiWay by Eric Oberhauser 2015 Google image from Connecting_Mississauga_-_MiWay_by_Eric_Oberhauser_2015.17374325_std.jpg

Thursday, July 30, 2015 - 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) congratulates artist Eric Oberhauser whose artwork "Connecting Mississauga - MiWay" has been selected for the first phase of the AGM's Commute Commune project.

An award/photo ceremony will take place on July 30, 2015 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the parking lot of the Riverwood Conservancy. Oberhauser will be presented with a $500 honorarium, a family membership to the Art Gallery of Mississauga (value of $150), a MiWay Prize Pack, and an interior bus card displaying his artwork. This event is open to the public.

Envisioned in two parts, Commute Commune is a celebration of Mississauga and how people and neighbourhoods are connected. Earlier in 2015, the AGM invited artists with a connection to Mississauga to submit artworks visualizing Mississauga as a vital city connected by public transit. Artists were asked to reflect on what kinds of connections public transit brings to Mississauga; what connections exist between destinations, neighbourhoods, diverse peoples, daily functions and recreation; and how will MiWay continue to connect Mississauga in the future? From the submissions, one artist was selected to have their work produced as interior bus cards and featured for a year on 100 MiWay buses (1 in every 4 MiWay buses). In the future, Phase II of Commute Commune will engage artists in community collaborations to co-create experiences of creative placemaking on public transit.

A resident of Mississauga for the past 25 years, Eric Oberhauser's work highlights MiWay (Mississauga's public transit system) as a catalyst to unite people and communities from an array of destinations within the city. Oberhauser's educational background includes an Honours Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Education, and an MA in Applied Language Studies.

The Commute Commune Project is generously funded by the Community Foundation of Mississauga.

Just Listen!
Your Body Is Speaking to You
by Stephanie Dodier, CNP, NN

Just listen! Your body is speaking to you image from http://goodnessme.ca

Thursday, July 30, 2015 - 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Complimentary.

Instructor: Stephanie Dodier, CNP, NN

Your body is sending you messages, whether you're aware of them or not. These physiological signals are unique for each individual: racing heart when you have to speak in public or low energy for others. Stress may cause one person's stomach to churn and another to start sweating excessively. How does your body communicate with you and demand your attention? Is it possible that your disease or condition simply be a message that you haven't understood yet?

In this workshop, Stephanie will explore the messages that the body sends to you and help interpret them so you can make the right decision for yourself. Stephanie will provide you with clear and practical solutions from both lifestyle and nutrition perspectives.

Homeopathic medicine is a medical system founded by German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1790. The name homeopathy is derived from two Greek words that mean "like disease." The system is based on the idea that substances that produce symptoms of sickness in healthy people will have a curative effect when given in very dilute quantities to sick people who exhibit those same symptoms. Come in to learn more about the history and practices of homeopathy to make the most of it in your own life!
