● In brief, the new action plan offers:
A one-stop website where seniors can find information about tax credits, drug coverage, powers of attorney, recreation programs, and more.
An annual high-dose influenza vaccine, targeted to protect seniors, which will be available free of charge as part of the Ontario Universal Influenza Immunization Program, starting in the 2018-2019 flu season.
Support for "naturally occurring" retirement communities by investing more than $15 million over two years for apartment buildings or housing developments where many seniors already live close to one another.
More volunteering opportunities connecting seniors and youth, fostering learning and mentorship while reducing older people's risk of social isolation.
5,000 new Long Term Care (LTC) beds over the next four years and 15 million more hours of nursing, personal support and therapeutic care annually for residents in LTC homes, as well as a 10-year plan to create more than 30,000 new beds over the next decade, working with the long-term care sector.

Info from City of Mississauga: Driveway Windrow Snow Clearing Program - Deadline to apply: 9:00 pm, Friday, November 10, 2017. Program will be offered from November 27, 2017 to March 30, 2018.

The Driveway Windrow Snow Clearing Program helps residents by clearing space in the snow windrow at the end of their driveway. The program is offered to residents 65 years and older and individuals who are physically disabled (as verified by a regulated health professional). The cost of the program is $200. The program is offered at no cost to eligible applicants who meet financial assistance criteria.

Completed applications can be submitted at any City of Mississauga community centre, the Mississauga Seniors' Centre and the Recreation Customer Service Centre from Tuesday, August 8, 2017 until 9 pm on Friday, November 10, 2017. Completed applications and supporting documentation must be submitted in person.

What is a windrow?
A windrow is the snow left at the end of a driveway after a snow plow has cleared a road.

Who qualifies for participation in the program?
Only one person per address may participate in this program. In order to qualify, applicants must meet the following conditions:
Resident of Mississauga, 65 years and older in 2017 (i.e. born in 1952 or earlier) or someone who is physically disabled as verified by a regulated health professional.
No abled-bodied person(s) living at the same residence where driveway windrow snow clearing assistance is required.
Residents who live on a private road or in a high-rise, multi-unit building, condominium or within a commercial property are not eligible to apply.

What is included in the program?
The program will clear a space in the windrow that is big enough to allow one car to pass (about three metres or 10 feet wide) after every snow plowing operation from November 27, 2017 until March 30, 2018.
Windrow snow clearing will be completed after active snow plowing operations are finished.
Residents in this program should allow up to 36 hours after the end of a snow storm for windrows to be cleared. Clearing to bare pavement cannot be guaranteed.

How much does the program cost?
Participation is FREE for:
1. Residents 65 years and older in 2017, (i.e. born in 1952 or earlier) who are eligible for financial assistance.
2. Individuals who are physically disabled, as verified by a regulated health professional, who are eligible for financial assistance.

"Simple. Delicious. Healthy. For everyone. These are the ideas upon which Sandy Pomeroy, head chef at Goodness Me!, Lifewatchers instructor, and now author, based her cookbook. Introducing Grain-Free Goodness, Sandy's first and very delicious book. Sandy has worked for Goodness Me! for close to 20 years, helping to inspire people toward healthy living with her recipes, classes, and enthusiasm for food. You've probably met her at some point, heard her name, or tried one of her recipes. Now, she has compiled all of her favourite recipes into one spot: Grain-Free Goodness.

Come hear Sandy's story, including why she got into healthy eating in the first place, how she started with Goodness Me!, what health challenges she has faced, and why she adapted the grain-free lifestyle. She'll show you the benefits of this type of diet, explain why she chooses to use certain ingredients, and you'll get to taste just how delicious this lifestyle can be with a few recipe samples from Sandy's book. After hearing about her food philosophy and seeing how easy and delicious healthy eating can be, you'll walk away thinking, 'I can make that'.
