Come to the Celebration Square for the Opening Ceremonies of Legends Row, Mississauga's "Walk of Fame".

For the past five years, inductees have been honoured during an annual ceremony. During that time, their recognition was virtual in nature. The infrastructure for this outdoor museum has now been completed and will be officially open to the million plus visitors who spend time on Celebration Square each year. The new Mississauga Legends Row will be located on the North-West corner of Celebration Square within the colonnade at the entrance to the Jubilee Garden. See Location.

Legends Row is Mississauga's "Walk of Fame". Induction into Legends Row is the highest honour a resident, or former resident can receive in our city. Each year, Mississauga will celebrate the achievements of several eminent Mississaugans, past and present, in the fields of:
● Athletics
● Arts and Culture
● Entertainment and Media
● Public Service
● Business, Innovation and Science
● Community Builders/Leaders
● Philanthropy
by profiling these leading citizens on Mississauga Legends Row with a descriptive plaque of their accomplishments.

Legends Row Mississauga Inductees are or were residents from one of the following Mississauga Communities: 13 Townships of Mississauga, Constellation Ceiling, Council Chambers. YouTube video, 0:54 min. Published on Apr 14, 2017 by sq1oac2. "Panoramic view of Townships or Neighbourhoods: Clarkson, Erindale, Sheridan, Streetsville, Meadowvale Village, Malton, Dixie, Toronto Township, Lakeview, Port Credit, Cooksville, and Lorne Park."

During the last five years, 27 people have been inducted into this initiative and many of them will be in attendance to witness the unveiling of their plaques. Visit www.legendsrow.ca for a full listing of those who have been honoured: Class of 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013.

Inductees and their families along with dignitaries from the three levels of government, and Mississauga's community and business leaders will be in attendance. The event is also open to the general public.

Congratulations to Ron Duquette and the distinguished Board of Directors responsible for this important step along the path to forging the unique and memorable identity of Mississauga.
Mississauga Legends Row is one of the foundational pillars in building a city's cultural strength and identity. It showcases the strong character-in-action roots of our city through its most distinguished citizens and provides an authentic answer to the question: Who are we at our best?"

Legends Row to celebrate Mississauga's finest. Oscar Peterson and Paul Henderson among the first 10 residents to be honoured with markers in city's Celebration Square. Article by San Grewal, Urban Affairs Reporter, Toronto Star, Aug. 6, 2013. Info from PAMA:

This July and August, admission to the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is FREE! Join PAMA for the opening of the featured exhibition, Peel 150: Stories of Canada and a FREE kick-off celebration on Thursday, June 29, 2017, 6-9 pm - just in time for Canada's 150th birthday on July 1, 2017.

The County of Peel (now Region of Peel) and the Peel County Courthouse and Jail at PAMA, are all celebrating their 150th. At the kick-off celebration, meet Indigenous artist James Simon Mishibinijima, enjoy special musical guests and Aboriginal drumming performances by the Peel Aboriginal Network (PAN), and a Canada 150 scavenger hunt with great prizes to be won!

To create the featured exhibition, Peel 150: Stories of Canada, PAMA asked hundreds of visitors: "What does Canada mean to you?" People's love for Canada came through strongly in the themes of truth, peace, home, community, land, creativity, and innovation. Inspired by these themes, PAMA staff used rich artifact, archival, and art collections, as well as works borrowed from artists, to create this jam-packed exhibition.

Woven throughout the exhibition are the beautiful and haunting paintings of Indigenous artist, James Simon Mishibinijima. His art interprets the tragic impacts of the residential school system on his mother and many generations.

Visitors will also experience an exhibition featuring a huge Victory Bond flag awarded to Chinguacousy Township in 1918 (and recently conserved by the Canadian Conservation Institute), and a mock-up of the cockpit of the Avro Arrow created by Avro engineers in the 1950s, both from the PAMA Museum Collection. The exhibition includes selected pieces from PAMA's rich permanent art collection, among them historical landscapes of the Peel Region, an incredible sketchbook from artist Tom Thomson, sculptures, large abstract paintings and small format prints and drawings.

Location: Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA) is located at the corner of Wellington Street and Main Street, opposite Brampton's City Hall. 9 Wellington St E, Brampton, ON L6W 1Y1 Canada
