The project comprises of five rounds, each round has eight sessions which will run from May 2018 until November 2018. The project delivery will be workshop-based where guest facilitators such as nutritionists will conduct presentations in an interactive atmosphere. Seniors will exchange knowledge and practices on the impact of food on health and well-being, and on how to manage health issues through diet.

In a region as diverse as Peel, this project addresses the issues of social isolation and importance of volunteerism among seniors, and will aim at increasing community participation.

Instructor: Alexi Bracey, Emotional and Environmental Health Coach

The air quality of our homes is now more toxic than the outdoors. Contributing factors are plastics, mould, flames retardants, and household cleaning products to name a few. Cancer has now been linked not only to poor nutrition but to environmental toxins as well. In fact, brain cancer, the leading cause of cancer in children under 14, is linked 4% to genes and 96% to environment. In this workshop, you will get a better understanding of which toxins tax your immune system the most, which interfere with sleep, and solutions to rectify the problem. ~ Info from Goodness Me!

Thanks for a grant from New Horizons for Seniors.

This event is organized by Dr. Jane Fraser, President of Tecky Seniors Project: Lifelong Learning.

The goal is to promote live drama in senior residences and to encourage future generations of youths to connect with seniors.

The "Senior-Youth Play" does not yet exist. Dr. Fraser is hoping that you will be bringing your ideas and suggestions and sharing them at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre on June 18th.

Your ideas will be written down or recorded, collected and given to the drama teacher(s) at Mayfield Secondary School. The Grade 10 drama students will then use these ideas to write a play in the summer. The Grade 9 drama students will perform the play to a 1000-Senior Audience at Mayfield S.S. in December 2018. All Golden Horseshoe Senior Residences will receive an electronic copy of the script for the play to read or act in their Home Theatres or Centres.

Join the Chemical-Free Revolution

Monday, June 25, 2018

Instructors: John Strachan and Larry Henderson

Welcome to the Chemical-Free Zone.

Most people do not realize the danger of household chemicals and how little regulation there is on these chemicals. The people that do know, do not realize that there is an alternative to using toxic chemicals to clean. Numerous studies have demonstrated the correlation between regular household chemicals and serious health conditions including obesity, diabetes, brain damage, and even cancer. We will review these studies to explain the link between household chemicals and an unhealthy lifestyle and present a revolutionary alternative - e-cloth cleaning.

Chemical-Free cleaning is possible using the e-cloth cleaning system and just water!

The Good Housekeeping Institute endorses e-cloth cleaning as good for the environment as it promotes zero chemical pollution and no paper towel landfill waste. E-cloth is recommended by the Allergy Association to be good for you by eliminating harmful chemicals or toxins. This helps young children and people who suffer from allergies, asthma, and chemical sensitivities.
