Get Your Flu Shot

Get Your Flu Shot Flug Bug Google image from https://www.colbert.k12.al.us/ces/News/125#sthash.EN6JBOvz.dpbs
Healthy Hero Flu Shots
Image source: Cherokee Elementary School, Cherokee, AL

Brampton - Saturday, November 2, 2019 - 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Caledon - Wednesday, November 6, 2019 - 3:00 - 8:00 pm
Mississauga - Saturday, November 9, 2019 - 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Info from Region of Peel:

Get your flu shot - The flu shot is the best way you can protect yourself and your loved ones.

Remember that influenza (flu) spreads easily from person to person, especially during the peak season running from late fall to early spring.

Symptoms of the flu include:
● Fever
● Chills
● Cough
● Runny eyes
● Stuffy nose
● Sore throat
● Headache
● Muscle aches
● Extreme weakness and fatigue
● Loss of appetite

The flu is not the same as having a cold. The Flu Facts page on Ontario.ca has a symptom chart to help you identify if you have the flu or a cold.

Who is at risk? Most cases of the flu are mild and resolve with time, but in some cases, it can have serious complications and result in severe illness or even death.

Babies, children, older adults and people with certain health conditions are at higher risk of serious complications from influenza.

Other ways to prevent getting the flu: Wash your hands often and try not to touch your face. This is a good first step to help avoid getting the flu.

You can also disinfect surfaces like countertops, door handles, computer keyboards and phones. The flu virus can live on hard surfaces like these for up to 48 hours.

Are you looking to hire a health care agency to provide the flu shot?
The following agencies are approved to offer the flu shot within the Region. Contact the agency directly to arrange a clinic.

● Care Partners (Brampton) 905-452-7118 ext. 2108
● Care Partners (Mississauga) 289-290-2602 ext. 2276
● Closing the Gap Healthcare 905-306-0202
● Lifemark Health 855-444-0834
● Saint Elizabeth Health Care; Central West 905-826-0854
● Spectrum Health Care 905-272-2271
● Global Health Solutions 647-225-0580
● Workplace Medical Corp. 416-252-5885 ext. 2223

Get your flu shot every year. The flu shot is different each year because the virus changes - so you need to get it every year.

Where to get your flu shot? Flu shots will be available at many locations across Peel, including:
● Family Doctors' offices
● Walk-in clinics
● Pharmacies
● Peel Public Health flu clinics
● Find a health care service - Pharmacy in Mississauga.

2019 Peel Public Health flu clinics: Region of Peel flu clinics give free flu shots to anyone 6 months and older. An Ontario Health Card (OHIP card) is not required.

Welcome H.O.M.E. (Helping Others Manage Everyday) program presented by Turner & Porter. "There is no place like home. Home is our safe-haven where we can truly be familiar and comfortable. When changes occur within the family, such as a death, separation, or someone leaving home, it often creates change in the responsibilities for the one remaining. Adjusting to the new 'normal' can be difficult. As you embark upon this new journey, we invite you to join our H.O.M.E. program to assist with a variety of life's essentials. You're not alone. Welcome to our home."

Info from Turner and Porter events website: "Taking charge of the household finances may be more than you had budgeted for. The thought of getting through today, let alone the future of your finances, may all seem too much to bear.

Join us as we clarify the required financial essentials and outline one's primary responsibilities. Stock up on these helpful tips:

● Have security in knowing you're not alone;
● Make sense of your obligations;
● Reduce unnecessary overspending;
● Create an organized payment calendar;
● Credit yourself knowing that you are just steps away from a strategic and organized plan."

How Money Works

Image source: cdn.evbuc.com

Tuesday, November 19, 2019 - 7:00 - 8:45 pm

Knowing how money works can positively impact just about every area of your life. The knowledge of how money works is called financial literacy. Chandrakal believes that when you can change a person's literacy, you can change that person's life. That's why he shares this site with people he meets - to challenge them to see if they know the basics and learn more about money so they can live better, do more, and dream bigger.

Before registering for the workshop, please play this game first - "Do you know how money works?" located at https://howmoneyworks.com/chandrakalavenkatesh

Find out how money works by taking the 5-question challenge online. Then - pass or fail - contact Chandrakala and tell him your score.

If you got any question wrong, and want to know more on how to make money work for you, join this workshop to learn about:
● 1. The impending economic changes (cost cutting / automation leading to job cuts);
● 2. Moving from "being an employee" to "be an entrepreneur" stage;
● 3. Building a business that would be an additional source of income (either use additional savings or to retire early ... You choose!)

A Social History of Tea:
Tea's Influence on Commerce, Culture & Community

Monday, November 25, 2019 - 3:00 pm

What makes a commodity so special? Who assigns its value? What power could a pearl, a tea leaf, a grain of salt yield? How could the world be held hostage by these often frivolous goods?

In this engaging 1-hour presentation, award-winning presenter Lianne Harris will take a look at some of the top commodities in history and examine why they were coveted, what purpose they served, who was willing to pay the price for them, and who ended up suffering for it.

An enlightening and enthusiastic look at treachery, greed, power, tenacity and contrived luxury that exploited the world and whose benefits we still demand, and whose fruits we still poignantly reap.

Brief info on two Filipino dances: Maria Clara and Tinikling.

From Sayawan!! regarding photo above, the "Maria Clara Dance":
This dance is a mix of Spanish gracefulness and customized native props, such as bamboo castanets and Asian fan. Female dancers wear Maria Clara dress that typifies the European style, while men are in barong tagalog, a traditional Filipino embroidered long-sleeve shirt made of pineapple fiber.

Also from Sayawan!! regarding Tinikling:
Tinikling is considered the national folkdance with a pair of dancers hopping between two bamboo poles held just above the ground and struck together in time to music. Originated from Leyte Province, this dance is in fact a mimic movement of "tikling birds" hopping over trees, grass stems or over bamboo traps set by farmers. Dancers perform this dance with remarkable grace and speed jumping between bamboo poles.
