Speaker Series at Parkland on the Glen.
About Guest Speaker: Richard Jordan.
Bell was only 16 years old, the swim was a grueling 51.5 kilometres long (which ended up being about 72 km, given various course corrections) and took her 21 hours to complete. The race began on 8 September 1954 at approximately 11 p.m. at Youngstown, NY, and finished at the slimy breakwater off Toronto's western shore the next day, 9 September. ~ Info from Canadian Encyclopedia.

History of Oktoberfest: Kronprinz Ludwig (1786-1868), later King Ludwig I (reign: 1825-1848), married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on 12 October 1810. The citizens of Munich were invited to attend the festivities held on the fields in front of the city gates to celebrate the royal event. The fields were named "Theresienwiese" ("Theresa's Meadow") in honour of the Crown Princess. Locally, it is called d'Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds, Theresienwiese. ~ Wikipedia.
Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest, featuring a beer festival and a travelling carnival. It is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, running from mid- or late-September to around the first Sunday in October, with more than six million international and national visitors attending the event. ~ Wikipedia.
