~ Ann Langdon, Community Engagement Coordinator
In our Spring Brochure, we noted that Older Adult Centre was approved for a 3-year Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant to expand our programs for seniors into the community. Some of you have been wondering if that meant we were going to close our Square One location and move elsewhere. Well, rest assured, we are not leaving our Square One location. We love it here! We have just outgrown the space, and need some EXTRA space in the community.
The grant included the funding to hire a Community Engagement Coordinator for 3 years. We have hired Ann Langdon to fill this position and we are sure that you will like her.
Ann Langdon graduated from seminary with a theological degree with a minor in pastoral counselling. She received her commission as an ordained minister in 1991. Ann has extensive training in human resources management, counselling, business administration, Christian theology, ethics, volunteer management, strategic planning and conflict management. She served as Administrator and Chaplain at two Long Term Care facilities (Sunset Lodge in Victoria, B.C., and Eventide Nursing Home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). She has also recently held positions with Heart House Hospice, Nucleus Independent Living and VON Peel.
Ann has a love for people and a willing heart. She has a true desire to care for others and finds it a privilege to be a part of our team at Older Adult Centre. She is looking forward to working with the emerging new team at the off-site locations and in doing so, meeting the needs of our seniors in Streetsville and Meadowvale. Welcome Ann!
Congratulations to our Volunteers! It was our honor to present the 15, 10 and 5 year Volunteer Service Awards to a group of "Stars" at our Volunteer Recognition Event on April 14, 2011. What an inspiring group of people! Thank you for you commitment.
Please be sure to review the purple insert in the Spring 2011 newsletter. We have included our Tree of Sharing Donation Form. Soon the Trees will blossom in our lobby showing how caring and generous our members are. Please consider supporting this worthwhile campaign.
The insert also highlights our upcoming Annual General Meetings which are on June 24, 2011. There are a number of positions up for election, so please consider sharing your skills and knowledge with our Board of Directors. We are an ambitious and forward thinking group.
