Come and listen to Sharlene Wallace, harpist from the Chamber Music Society of Mississauga, play the celtic harp.
Biographical info: Sharlene Wallace is one of Canada's most prolific and influential lever harp players. She has won two international competitions, the Lyon and Healy International Pop and Jazz Lever Harp Competition (Tucson, Arizona) and the Concours d'Improvisation de Rencontres Internationales de Harpe Celtique (Dinan, France). Sharlene tours internationally giving concerts, workshops, masterclasses and adjudications. She has performed in numerous festivals and concert series across North America and in Europe. Sharlene is also on the faculties of York and Wilfred Laurier Universities teaching lever and pedal harps. Her own Classical performance degree is from the University of Toronto where she studied with the eminent harpist Judy Loman. Sharlene is Principal Harpist with the Guelph, Oakville and Kingston Symphonies.

Celebrate International Volunteer Day (IVD) at Volunteer MBC (Brampton) December 5, 2014 |
On Friday, December 5, 2014, Volunteer MBC invites the Region of Peel community to attend their Annual Holiday Open House and to join in on the celebration of International Volunteer Day (IVD).
Volunteer MBC is a Volunteer Centre that fosters and develops volunteerism in the Region of Peel, serving the cities of Mississauga and Brampton, and the Town of Caledon, by raising awareness of the power of service.
(IVD), as declared by the United Nations General Assembly, is a day that celebrates the efforts of those who have made an important contribution to society by giving their time as volunteers.
This year’s event will take on the theme of “Show us YOU care” and will provide the opportunity to celebrate the incredible efforts of volunteers across the Region of Peel, meet the Centre’s staff, as well as to learn more about the programs and services that are available through the local Volunteer Centre.

The Ambiance Choir has been around since the 1980s and started in Meadowvale as a mixed community choir under the direction of Earl Nelham. Later it became a ladies group under the name The Earl Nelham Singers. Annual spring concerts were usually performed in the hall of the Cooksville United Church. In 1999, they began to perform at the Royal Bank Theater in the Living Arts Centre, Mississauga. Following Earl Nelham’s retirement in 2004, Danny McErlain was hired to be the director and they renamed themselves The Ambiance Singers.
