Legends of Rock Film Festival
"Gimme Shelter" [The Rolling Stones] R (1970)

Gimme Shelter Movie Poster Google image from http://www.cineparadise.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/gimme-shelter-movie-rolling-stones.jpg

Wednesday, October 1, 2014 - 6:30 pm

Rated: R, 91 min - Documentary | Music - 13 December 1970 (UK)

Plot Summary from IMDb. "In December of 1969, four months after Woodstock, the Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane gave a free concert in Northern California, east of Oakland at Altamont Speedway. About 300,000 people came, and the organizers put Hell's Angels in charge of security around the stage. Armed with pool cues and knifes [sic], Angels spent the concert beating up spectators, killing at least one. The film intercuts performances, violence, Grace Slick and Mick Jagger's attempts to cool things down, close-ups of young listeners (dancing, drugged, or suffering Angel shock), and a look at the Stones later as they watch concert footage and reflect on what happened." ~ Written by jhailey@hotmail.com.

"3D printing has been around since the 1980s. It's only been in recent years, though, that it's become accessible to the majority of citizens. This technological leap forward has the power to unleash an explosion of creativity and innovation as well as free small, independent entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life in a quick and cost-effective way ... It doesn't matter that you have no inherent experience with design programs. You don't even need to know how to draw. All you need is an active imagination that can come up with an idea that you would want to see made in reality." ~ Bring Your Idea to Life with 3D Printing.

New 3D Printer at Mississauga Library Offers Opportunities to Create, Build and Design. Jun 05, 2014. "Integrating Maker Mississauga programs into existing libraries is part of the Mississauga Library System's master plan and has been made possible through the generous support of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Diet and Digestion:
Say Good-Bye to Gerd, Eczema and Auto-Immune

Susan Stephens, RHN Google image from http://gocooking.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/susan-stephens.jpg?w=225&h=300
Susan Stephens, B.Comm, RHN

Friday, October 3, 2014 - 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Complimentary.

Teacher: Susan Stephens, B.Comm, RHN

Susan Stephens: The biggest problem that I see in my practice today is that we don't digest our FOOD, which seems counterproductive, especially if we are taking expensive supplements, drinking green smoothies and eating salads, dusk till dawn. Unfortunately, there are many factors that can eradicate a strong digestive fire, such as stress, coffee, raw/cold foods (oh yes!), liver toxicity, and even enzymes long-term!

In this class, we will explore ways to elevate absorption, improve elimination (Yes, 3 bowel movements a day!!!) and heal Leaky Gut, which is the culprit for many diseases such as Eczema, Auto-immune, Allergies and Asthma.

Definition of GERD, from Mayo Clinic: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a chronic digestive disease. GERD occurs when stomach acid or, occasionally, stomach content, flows back into your food pipe (esophagus). The backwash (reflux) irritates the lining of your esophagus and causes GERD.

So, join Susan Stephens, Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Chinese Medicine Practitioner, and come BEAT the BLOAT. Learn about the following topics:
● Discover simple Foods to maximize absorption
● How Increasing Regularity Elevates Mood, Drops Weight and Clears Skin
● What does your poo say?
● How Stress can Impair Digestion and Increase Weight Gain
● Learn how to treat Leaky Gut
● Eliminating Constipation, Gas, Bloating and Irritable Bowel Syndrome
● Protocols for GERD, Acid Reflux and Heartburn
● How to Improve Iron, B12 and Calcium Absorption by Treating Digestion
● What foods are good for you, specifically?
● Learn the basics of tongue diagnosis

Karate World Champion and former Canadian National Karate Team member Clint Cora will be teaching a FREE Total Body Stretch class outdoors at Mississauga Celebration Square.

This is the stretch routine that he used throughout his martial arts competition career and it will help increase flexibility throughout your total body. It will wake up muscles you didn't even know existed!

Many of these stretches can be used as warm ups and cool downs for ANY sporting or exercise activity that you do.

The routine Clint takes people through is SAFE and just as if not more effective than any yoga routine out there in terms of flexibility training. Even yoga instructors have been impressed with Clint's Total Body Stretch session. It is also geared for all levels from beginners all the way to serious athletes.

You will be exposed to the SAME stretches he used for his own competition training (and still use today as part of his overall fitness program).

Near the end of the session, Clint will even show the more advanced and flexible folks his OPTIONAL power stretches that will increase flexibility even greater. Your knowledge of stretching will increase ten fold during this session.

Bring a towel or yoga mat if you don't want to be right on the turf grass.

Meet at 9:45 am at Celebration Square.

Louise Botha

Friday, October 17, 2014 - 10:00 am

"Art can do more than hang, it can heal!" ~ Louise Botha.

FREE therapeutic art workshop led by Louise Botha - Artist, Designer, Instructor and Author of Creative Aging!

Louise will provide basic materials for a quick creative activity. "Have fun with me in this mixed media workshop. We will be using acrylic paints and pens to create about versus and quotes that have special meaning to us. During this workshop, we will get the opportunity to share precious memories and also address issues that are important to us."

"If Culture Days were anything to go by - participants were so interested in the message, that creating the art was an afterthought. I encourage you to find your voice through art and verse and share your message - it is both liberating and empowering!" ~ Louise Botha, Facebook: Louise Botha: Art and Design, about.me/louisebotha.

Louise Botha Bio:

Creativity = Peace, Energy and Healing ...

"Creating art has been a lifelong journey of discovery for me. I invite you to discover your own creativity by observing my paintings. They are all very different, because I create my art without any preparative work - imagine no frantic search for ideas, no preliminary sketches... I find it healing and relaxing to paint my thoughts directly onto the canvas - what conspires is a collaboration of my conscious and sub-conscious mind. It is a reflective process, very similar to meditation and the results often amaze me ...

It has been an interesting journey that brought me to this point in my creative life - I studied art and design, went on to become an interior designer, owned and operated a ceramics company and I eventually returned to painting and teaching art and creative studies. My art has been exhibited in galleries across the world and my paintings are in private and public collections. I have always been convinced however that the pleasure of creating art should be for everyone, that the healing power of creativity is of tremendous use to us all and that a creative approach to education would benefit all students.

I encourage you, as you look at my work to think of creating your own - to tap into this wonderfully healing resource and share it with the others ..."
