This FUN class encourages you to express yourself with dance moves, tamborines and scarves while you are safely sitting in a chair.
Sit and Dance is a combination of breathing, stretching, exercising and dancing to music while seated in a chair. Each song is music to a dance which may be a German, Italian, Filipino, Hawaiian or New Zealand folk dance, or the Waltz, Twist and Polka. You do only what you can and the dance need not be strenuous.
The class improves body co-ordination and a sense of rhythm, which is very important for seniors who need to move and synchronize their mind and body. It is also a great aerobic exercise, improving circulation, breathing and flexibility. This class is not just for people with physical issues, but is good for everybody!
This is a drop-in program and costs $3.25 per visit.

"Our Night Sky" Show - Erin
Mills Town Centre
from SNAPD North Mississauga, October 2016, p. 3.
Photos and event by Riya Singh. Website code: pewwk5t.
FREE admission performance.
The Chamber Music Society of Mississauga (CMSM) presents "Our Night Sky"at Erin Mills Town Centre in Mississauga.
Info from CMSM:
"Our Night Sky", is a new, multi-media, multi-cultural,
curriculum based show for young audiences of all ages created and
performed by CMSM.
Inspired by the night sky above us all, "Our Night Sky" is a 50-minute show of storytelling and music. In "Our Night Sky", the narrator, who falls asleep under the night sky at her grandmother's farm, tells the story of a young girl exploring the night sky in her dreams as she remembers the stories from all over the world, that her grandmother told her. A CMSM chamber ensemble accompanies this story.
"Our Night Sky" is also new adventure for CMSM musicians who usually play acoustically but for this show will be experimenting with electronic instruments, improvisation and special sound effects using a synthesizer. The musical score has been created by Mississauga composer, Michael Coghlan and the story that it accompanies has been created by a collaborative team of CMSM's Artistic Director, Peggy Hills, working with Randy Attwood of the Royal Astronomical Society of Mississauga, Angela Fusco, actor, Trish O'Reilly, actor and the performing musicians.
Performing musicians will be Ben Bolt Martin, cello; Peggy Hills, violin; Kim Norris, Chinese and western flute; Richard Moore, percussion; Sharlene Wallace, harp; Barbara Croall, First Nations cedar flute; Subhadra Vijaykumar, carnatic violin; Eileen Keown, piano; Michael Coghlan, synthesizer; and Denis Mastromonaco, conductor.
The Chamber Music Society of Mississauga (CMSM) is proud to introduce the narrators for "Our Night Sky", 14 year old Camille Labonté, singer, actor, guitarist, flute player and pianist, a member of the Mississauga Symphony Youth Orchestra and former member of the Toronto Children's Chorus and the Mississauga Children's Choir, and 16 year old Elise Mariah, singer/songwriter and winner of the Grand Prize and the Fan's Choices awards from The Mississauga Art Council's annual Singfest competition.

On the 15th of the lunar calendar, each month, the moon is at its roundest and brightest, symbolizing togetherness and reunion in Chinese culture. Families get together to express their familial love by eating dinner together, appreciating the moon, enjoying mooncakes, etc. The harvest moon is traditionally believed to be the brightest of the year.
Ancient Chinese emperors worshiped the harvest moon at mid-autumn, as they believed that the practice would bring them a plentiful harvest the next year ... In the early Tang Dynasty (618-907), the day was officially celebrated as a traditional festival. It then became an established festival during the Song Dynasty (960-1279) ... The tradition of eating mooncakes during the festival (Moon Festival) began in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368, a dynasty ruled by the Mongols). ~ Info from: The History and Origins of China's Mid-Autumn Festival.
