Go to Online Survey.
You are invited to participate in a study entitled “The Use of Natural Health Products in the Elderly” conducted by Dr. Dalya Abdulla. Dr. Abdulla is from the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville, Ontario, and is collaborating with the Sheridan Elder Research Center (SERC) to conduct this study. You may contact Dr. Abdulla by calling (905) 459-7533 ext. 5298. Study ends August 31, 2012.
The purpose of this research project is to determine the pattern of natural health product usage among older Canadian adults. It is important to understand natural health product usage patterns among older adults to aid health care professionals in personalizing healthcare and preventing unintentional medication errors.
If you are a resident of Ontario, Canada over the age of 55, we invite you to complete this questionnaire. This survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. All potentially identifying information will remain completely confidential, and will be accessed only by Dr. Abdulla or by a member of the research team at SERC. You may choose to stop completion of the questionnaire at any time.
It is anticipated that the results of this study will be shared either as a peer-reviewed publication or presented in a conference. In addition, reports will be provided to participants through the older adult community centers that participated in the research.
To help you complete this survey, you will need to know what a Natural Health Product is. A Natural Health Product (abbreviated as NHP) is any sort of dietary supplement. It can include products such as vitamins, herbs, mineral supplements, botanicals, essential fatty acids, probiotics, homeopathic preparations, or product blends.
Some examples of Natural Health Products (NHPs) include: multivitamins, calcium supplements, St. John’s Wort, Echinacea, Omega 3 Oils, Acidophilus, etc.

Description:
The risk of a fall dramatically increases at 40 years of age. A fall is not only painful but can cause a long recovery process and potentially a loss of independence.
People fall because their vision has changed or they are not wearing their glasses, medication doses are not followed, inactivity and poor balance, not wearing the correct footwear for the situation and the home environment is unsafe.
The panel of “Experts” will give you tips on how to prevent a fall. You will also be given a booklet of exercises you can do at home to increase your strength and balance. You can help prevent a fall by taking action and learning more.
Each panel expert will present for 10 minutes, then 1 hour is allotted to give you a chance to “Ask an Expert”.
This month’s Panel of Experts:
● The Mississauga Halton Falls Prevention Coordinator will tell you how falls happen, how to prevent them, and will also show you 10 exercises you can do at home to improve your balance and strength. Monica will also tell you what to do if you do fall.
● We Care Home Health will tell you how to make your home safe and will give you an Independent Living Guide so you can assess your home.
● MediChair will show you simple equipment that is available to make life easier.
Snacks will be provided by MediChair.
Also, thank you to Elham Khodeir for providing a foot care clinic.

"The delicious treat enjoyed by countless people as dessert and for entertaining is also a very complicated lesson in several scientific principles. This lecture will describe the manufacture of ice cream and then delve into its structure, which will involve a description of scientific principles such as colloidal stability and freezing point depression to explain how manufacturers make the optimum-quality product. Keeping that quality through the storage and distribution chain to deliver it to the consumer is an equally large challenge involving further applications of scientific principles to understand sugar glasses and ice recrystallization, all of which will be demonstrated in detail." ~ Info from The Royal Canadian Institute.
This FREE public one-hour lecture will be followed by a question period during which you can ask the scientist directly any questions that you may have.
The Royal Canadian Institute (RCI) for the Advancement of Science has provided these free public lectures since 1849. Webcasts are available at RCI Webcasts.

Midnight in Paris - Plot Summary from IMDb. "Gil and Inez travel to Paris as a tag-along vacation on her parents' business trip. Gil is a successful Hollywood writer but is struggling on his first novel. He falls in love with the city and thinks they should move there after they get married, but Inez does not share his romantic notions of the city or the idea that the 1920s was the golden age. When Inez goes off dancing with her friends, Gil takes a walk at midnight and discovers what could be the ultimate source of inspiration for writing. Gil's daily walks at midnight in Paris could take him closer to the heart of the city but further from the woman he's about to marry." ~ Written by napierslogs.

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father Plot Summary from IMDb. "In 2001, Andrew Bagby, a medical resident, is murdered not long after breaking up with his girlfriend. Soon after, when she announces she's pregnant, one of Andrew's many close friends, Kurt Kuenne, begins this film, a gift to the child. Friends, relatives, and colleagues say warm and loving things about Andrew, home movies confirm his exuberance. Andrew's parents, Kathleen and David, move to Labrador where the ex-girlfriend has gone. They await an arrest and trial of the murderer. They negotiate with the ex-girlfriend to visit their grandchild, Zachary, and they seek custody. Is there any justice; is Zachery a sweet and innocent consolation for the loss of their son?" ~ Written by jhailey@hotmail.com.

Shortly after she was arrested, she announced she was pregnant with Bagby's child, a boy she named Zachary. Canadian Community Arts Initiative (CCAI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting a more effective role of art and culture in Canadian community.
Following info obtained from StarBuzz Weekly, Toronto:
Project: “RELOAD” Documentary Films by Seniors - Registration Now Open.
Mississauga is the sixth largest city in Canada and home to over 700,000 people (as of 2011 census, Mississauga's population was 713,443. StarBuzz Weekly's population figure: over 850,000). See also: Mississauga’s growth forecast.
Mississauga is a part of the Regional Municipality of Peel which includes Brampton (as of 2011 census, Brampton's population was 523,911) and Caledon (as of 2011 census, Caledon's population was 59,460). Almost 50% of this population were born outside of Canada and are first generation immigrants.
The settlement process of a new immigrant generally lasts between three to five years. Seniors who have left their comfort zone of friends, culture and traditions, find it most difficult to accommodate themselves in a completely new land with different culture and traditions. Having to learn and/or speak a new language also proves challenging, especially for seniors.
These seniors suffer emotional stress at a time when they are most vulnerable. The emotional stress and confusion of their status in the society give rise to a feeling of isolation and helplessness and that is where a project such as this one offers a helping hand.
Thanks to a New Horizons for Seniors grant from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), CCAI will coach 15 seniors (especially new immigrants with 3-5 years tenure in Canada) in the art and science of documentary film making in sessions and workshops delivered by professional Canadian film makers, provide them with flipcams (mini digital video cameras) and have them record their impression of Canadian experience.
These films will then be reviewed by a jury of professional artists who will select 10 films to be edited and screened at the 7th annual Mosaic - The South Asian Heritage Festival of Mississauga in July 2012 where thousands are expected to view them. The flms will later be aired on local and cable television as well.
The project will create social inclusion opportunities for seniors, teach them a new skill and offer them a sense of accomplishment as they contribute to social and community life of Canada and are recognized for doing so.
This is an equal opportunity project, all seniors including women are encouraged to participate.
Please note the last day to apply is May 30, 2012. This is a first come first served opportunity. The application process may be closed at any time as soon as the required number of applications are received.
Seniors interested in participating in this project, please contact:
Asma Arshad Mahmood arshad@communityart.ca
Phone: 416-388-9596.

Parkinson's is a neurodegenerative disease, which is neither fatal nor contagious. It results in many symptoms, which include tremor, regidity, slowness and impaired balance. This happens because of a lack of dopamine in the brain.
Dopamine is a chemical that helps control movement, by carrying signals between nerves of the brain. When cells that normally produce dopamine die, the symptoms of Parkinson's appear.
As the carepartner of a person with Parkinson's, we would like to offer you an opportunity to share your experiences with other carepartners, to learn more about strategies to reduce caregiver strain, to receive support from others, and develop strategies for promoting your own health and wellbeing.
You are the "head, heart and hands" of most ongoing care within your family and within our society. Your role is extremely important to the life and wellbeing of your family member with significant health concerns.

Carassauga Celebrates its 27th Anniversary.
Multicultural Dance of Nations.
On the weekend of May 25, 26 and 27, 2012, Carassauga: Mississauga’s Festival of Cultures will offer visitors the opportunity to visit 60 countries, view breathtaking entertainment, taste exotic cuisine and enjoy exhilarating experiences, all without leaving the City.
The Carassauga Festival has grown from its humble roots in 1985 to become the largest multicultural Festival in Ontario and the second largest multicultural Festival in Canada. It was originally incorporated to promote public awareness and appreciation of multiple cultures, which it has been doing in an enjoyable, rewarding, educational and exciting manner, consistently for 26 years. Last year in the 26th consecutive year of operation, Carassauga attracted 260,272 visitors to the Festival.
The Festival provides an authentic cultural experience delivered by many ethnic groups and organizations working together to present their specific culture, food and entertainment. It is an “ever changing”, “yet familiar” experience. As Irene Violette, a loyal Festival visitor for more than 13 years, said, “Carassauga is just a fun time. You get to visit Around the World for $10. You get to learn about different cultures, meet nice people and try different foods. Every year, each Pavilion has something different for visitors to appreciate about their culture.”
Many Pavilions return year after year. The Pavilions of Portugal, Philippines, India, Croatia and Greece are five of the original participants that still participate today. This year the Festival welcomes three exciting new Pavilions: Serbia, Egypt and Caribbean.
Nothing is more Canadian than people of many cultures sharing their heritage and traditions with great pride. We hope your time at Carassauga leaves you with a broader understanding of the people around you, along with a deeper appreciation of this diverse City and great country of ours.
~ Info from Carassauga.com.

An idealistic playwright will do anything to get his first play off the ground, but must ultimately decide whether art or life is more important.
