A New York Times Editor's Choice: "1924. George Mallory is arguably the last great British explorer, having twice tried - and failed - to conquer Mount Everest. The mountain has haunted him, but his attempts have captivated the hearts of a nation desperate to restore its former glory after World War I. Yet George has sworn to his wife, Ruth, that he will not mount a third attempt. He will remain with her and their three children instead of again challenging the unreachable peak."
"Then, one afternoon, Ruth reads a telegram addressed to George: 'Glad to have you aboard again.' And with this one sentence, the lives of the Mallorys, and the face of the nation, are irrevocably changed."
"A beautifully rendered story about the need for redemption and the quest for glory, 'Above All Things' is a captivating blend of historical fact and imaginative fiction. It is a heartbreaking tale of obsession, sacrifice, and what we do for love and honor."
"A superb addition to the fictional biography genre." ~ Library Journal.
"Rideout's powerful prose about a tragic, brutal end will haunt you." ~ USA Today.
Lorne Park Library presents Tanis Rideout, local author, who will discuss her novel, "Above All Things". Her novel has been described as follows: "The Paris Wife meets Into Thin Air in this breathtaking debut novel of obsession and divided loyalties, which brilliantly weaves together the harrowing story of George Mallory's ill-fated 1924 attempt to be the first man to conquer Mount Everest, with that of a single day in the life of his wife as she waits at home in England for news of his return."

The First Green Wave: Pollution Probe and the Origins of Environmental Activism in Ontario (The Nature, History, Society) examines the story of Pollution Probe, an organization founded in 1969 by students and faculty at the University of Toronto.
Living up to its motto ("Do it!"), in its first year of operation, Pollution Probe confronted Toronto's City Hall over its use of pesticides, Ontario Hydro over air pollution, and the detergent industry over pollution of the Great Lakes. The success of these actions inspired the founding of other environmental organizations across Canada and led to the development of environmental initiatives now taken for granted.

Do you or any of your family members regularly experience common digestive problems, such as heartburn (reflux), indigestion, bloating, cramping, constipation, or diarrhea? Do any of you suffer from eczema, asthma, dyslexia, or depression? Have your children received labels such as autism, ADD or ADHD? Do you wonder if there is a common link between any of these things? The answer is yes ... The GAPS Diet has helped thousands of people overcome these conditions and more!
GAPS stands for both Gut and Psychology Syndrome and Gut and Physiology Syndrome as coined by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride in her book: Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia. GAP Syndrome establishes a seemingly obvious, but often ignored, connection between the function of your digestive system and the health of the rest of your body.
Stephanie was trained by Dr. Campbell-McBride to guide people in implementing the GAPS diet and lifestyle through both individual GAPS consultations and GAPS diet classes. During this class, Stephanie will share with you the goals of this program, the basic principles of the GAPS diet, and the various stages involved in the process.
